Ben Walsh has been touring professionally as a musician, performer and composer since the age of 18. he has studied many forms of world music, Jazz, electronica, Hip Hop and has made music for dance, circus and film. In the last 4 years he had started to write scores with his brass heavy horn ensemble “The Crusty Suitcase Band". One day he was asked if he would like to perform live to a film for Sydney Festival. He had a vision and convinced the festival to let him put together an eclectic ensemble, a modern concept of an orchestra. He threw himself in the deep end and started to compose for 6 months. "The Orkestra of the Underground" was born. it was an instant success and led him to his next work "The Arrival" premiering at the Sydney Opera House in 2010. Currently writing his 3rd score, the new work is to be recorded and without visuals to be released 2012.
In a special commission from the OZ Asia Festival & Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade, India, Ben composed a score for "Fearless Nadia" one of Nadia’s best loved films "Diamond Queen". Ben has spent over four months editing the film and writing a score involving nine highly regarded Indian musicians and nine of the finest Australia has to offer.
As a composer Ben has scored Rene Laloux’s classic animated Science Fiction Film “Fantastic Planet” for the Sydney Festival, Composed a full Orchestral score to Oscar winning Shaun Tan's "The Arrival". Over the last 12 years he has also created numerous scores for major dance and physical theatre companies and scored three award-winning short films.
